Lexmar USA, a Pittsburgh-area granite, quartz, and solid-surface countertop supplier, recently donated materials and labor to repair the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial of Allegheny County after it was vandalized this past summer.
The landmark, located at the North Shore, pays tribute to law enforcement officers from Allegheny County who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The memorial is etched with the names of officers who both lived and served in Allegheny County and died in the line of duty.
After vandals damaged and chipped the three-panel granite memorial, Lexmar USA employees, including owner Jason Coughenour and marketing representative Jamie Coughenour, offered to repair it at no cost.
“The men and women in blue provide an important public service for everybody. Our team decided that we wanted to help by volunteering our time, and we were happy to do it to show appreciation for the work and dedication of police offers. This is a smallLexmar USA Granite repair repayment for everything that our officers do to keep us safe,” said Jason.
The Law Enforcement Officers Memorial of Allegheny County was built in 1996 and moved to a new location in 2003 following the construction of Heinz Field. The design and building of the memorial was achieved through fundraisers and continues to be kept up through donations. However, after the vandalism, the group of officers who maintain the memorial realized that they did not have enough donated funds available to repair the granite.
Officer Rick Geppert, the secretary of Law Enforcement Officers Memorial of Allegheny County, a case investigator for the memorial, and an active officer with the Oakmont Police Department, said, “Jamie saw our post about the vandalism on Facebook. She and Jason then reached out to us and volunteered their time and workmanship to repair the damage to the Memorial in support of our brothers and sisters in blue. Lexmar USA’s team did a fantastic job, and it was much appreciated.”
