Most Popular Granite Colors May 30, 2018

Granite is a classic and durable choice when it comes to kitchen countertops. With so many to choose from, most homeowners narrow the choices by selecting what coordinates best with their cabinetry and flooring. A natural stone, granite is available in an array of colors, primarily falling into the categories of white, black, brown, beige, blue and red.

What’s selling best now?

More so than specific colors, which fluctuate based on a number of factors, one of which is what’s available naturally when quarried, here are the trends we see:

  • Homeowners sometimes gravitate toward other aspects outside of color such as whether or not the stone has movement. For example, the black and white swirly appearance of Silver Cloud (also known as Siberian Night).
  • Color trends tend to be seasonal. More customers request the darker granite colors in the winter and lighter colors in the warmer months.
  • Stylistically, we see more and more customers choosing to mix their island and perimeter colors. You can select a dark granite around the perimeter and a statement piece for your island.

Popular colors frequently requested:

  • Silver Cloud – also called Siberian Night
  • Canyon Dawn – also known as Fantasy Brow
  • Typhoon Bordeaux

Consider matching to your cabinetry and flooring

You can go any direction with the light and bright look of white granite, but you’ll want to be sure you pick the right shade so your kitchen isn’t washed out. Pair it with vintage appliances for a retro look or with modern appliances if contemporary is more your thing.

Consider style, lighting, and cabinetry

For instance, black granite is elegant and dramatic, and gray can have a contemporary look. You can complement them with neutral cabinets for a classic look. A few things to consider

  • Does your kitchen have plenty of natural light?
  • What color is your cabinetry?
  • Do the flecks or swirls of color match or complement the color of your flooring?

Think about texture and finish

You may be surprised how many options we have to choose from when you walk through our door. Granite stone with a leather texture or honed (matte) finish are top of the list as well. Others, who like the luxurious look of pearlescent accents of marble and how it coordinates with gray cabinetry, for instance, but worry about the durability of marble, might fall in love with our granite stones that have that pearl color quality.
